US have been the focal point of immigration for the past few decades. Nature and sometimes cause of immigration changed from time to time. However, the main reason why so many immigrants came to USA because all of them viewed US as the land of opportunities.

Immigrants bring along with them their own culture, traditions and perceptions. They often face culture shock and sometimes discrimination from the US society. Post-9/11 terror attack US society has become quite suspicious and skeptical about immigrants. According to an unconfirmed estimate 30% immigrants claimed discrimination faced from US society. However, the US law and courts remain neutral and symbol of neutrality.

After the aforesaid terror attack, Gallup poll has found that less Americans are ready to accept immigrants. Several laws have been formulated to take care of immigration issue:

  • 1990 Immigration Act
  • Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act(1996)
  • Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act(1996)

This field is the practice area of Immigration attorneys. These experts help immigrants in procuring green cards, consultancy for marriages with an US citizen, etc.

Several times ceiling has been imposed to restrict the immigrant inflow. In 2009, Bush set a ceiling at eighty thousand people. US also promotes third party settlement program for refugees. The number of male immigrants is twice higher over female immigrants.
